A long, long time ago, when the world was still young, there were two brothers named Cain and Abel. They were the children of Adam and Eve, the very first people God created. Cain was the older brother, and Abel was the younger one.
1. The Brothers’ Jobs
Cain and Abel had different jobs. Cain was a farmer who grew crops and took care of plants. Abel was a shepherd who took care of sheep and other animals. They both worked hard to take care of the things God had given them.
2. Giving Gifts to God
One day, Cain and Abel decided they wanted to give gifts to God to show their thanks and love. Cain brought some of the fruits and vegetables from his farm as his gift. Abel brought the very best lamb from his flock—one that was healthy and strong.
3. God’s Reaction
God was very pleased with Abel’s gift because it showed how much Abel loved Him and how carefully he chose the best for God. But God wasn’t as happy with Cain’s gift. It wasn’t that God didn’t like vegetables, but Cain’s gift wasn’t as special or thoughtful as Abel’s.
4. Cain’s Feelings
Cain was upset and angry because he saw that God favored Abel’s gift. He didn’t understand why his gift wasn’t as pleasing to God. His feelings turned into jealousy, and he began to feel very bitter and sad.
5. A Dangerous Plan
Instead of talking to God about his feelings or trying to understand what went wrong, Cain let his anger grow. One day, he took Abel out into a field, and there, in a moment of terrible anger, Cain hurt Abel. Abel fell to the ground, and Cain had done something very wrong.
6. God’s Question
When God saw what had happened, He asked Cain where Abel was. Cain tried to hide what he had done and said, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” But God knew the truth. He told Cain that Abel’s blood was crying out from the ground, and God knew exactly what had happened.
7. Cain’s Consequences
Because of what Cain had done, God told him that he would no longer be able to grow good crops and that the ground would not be friendly to him. Cain would have to wander the Earth and could no longer have a home of his own. He was very sad and scared because he thought people might hurt him for what he had done.
8. God’s Protection
But God didn’t want Cain to be all alone and afraid. So, God put a special mark on Cain to protect him. This mark was a sign that no one should harm him, and it showed that even though Cain had done something wrong, God still cared for him and wanted to keep him safe.
9. Life Goes On
Cain went on to live a long life. He built a city and started a family. Even though he had made a very big mistake, God’s protection and love were still with him.
10. A Lesson to Remember
The story of Cain and Abel teaches us some important lessons. It shows us how jealousy and anger can lead us to do things we regret, and it reminds us that we should always try to give our best to others and to God. Most importantly, it teaches us that even when we make mistakes, God’s love and protection are always there for us.
And that’s the story of Cain and Abel! It’s a tale about the importance of loving and respecting one another and always doing our best.
