Once upon a time, there was a man named Jonah. God spoke to Jonah and gave him a special job to do. God said, "Jonah, go to the great city of Nineveh and tell the people there to stop doing bad things."
But Jonah didn't want to go to Nineveh. He was scared and didn't think the people there would listen to him. So instead of going to Nineveh, Jonah decided to run away from God. He boarded a ship that was sailing far away from Nineveh.
But God saw Jonah trying to run away. He sent a big storm to rock the ship back and forth. The sailors on the ship were afraid. They prayed to their gods, but nothing helped. Finally, they asked Jonah what they should do.
Jonah knew the storm was because of him. He told the sailors, "Throw me into the sea, and the storm will stop." The sailors didn't want to do it, but the storm was getting worse. So they threw Jonah into the sea.
Right away, the storm stopped! God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah and keep him safe in its belly for three days and three nights. Inside the fish, Jonah prayed to God, saying he was sorry for running away. God heard Jonah's prayer and made the fish spit him out onto dry land.
This time, Jonah listened to God. He went to Nineveh and told the people that they needed to stop doing bad things. Surprisingly, the people of Nineveh listened to Jonah! They stopped doing bad things and started obeying God. Jonah learned an important lesson: that we can't hide from God, and God's plans are always good. Even when we make mistakes, God forgives us when we ask for forgiveness.
